Enjoy being the best you!

The world is constantly bombarding us with so many messages and so much in the media that continuously makes us feel inadequate; as though we’re not doing well enough or as though we’re not adequately qualified for whatever we’re into – e.g. being a mum, being a wife, being a pastor, being a musician, being a dad, being a husband….whatever you’re being…! I’m currently a wife and mum and boy! there’s so much expectations placed on mums these days that could make us feel as though we need to compare ourselves to the Jones’ or measure up to some peoples’ standard (who sets the standards anyway?) Who says  mums must be at home? Or who says they must go to work? Who says they must be at the same salary bracket as men or who says they can’t? Isn’t it just about doing what’s best for your family and what you feel comfortable with in your conscience?

Looking deeply into the word of God though, you’d find that there’s less pressure to try and impress! You’re just encouraged to be you and just focus on being the best you and enjoying your life with what God’s given you – be it your family, or your gifts, your talents, whatever makes you unique and whatever you feel you’re good at doing. There’s definitely something that only you can do so well on this planet, that no one else can do. So it’s important to discover this – how you ask? Just try your hands on the things you enjoy doing and eventually you’d find it. Except you step out though and try it, you might not discover who you really are and what you’re best at. Let’s rise up to the plate and enjoy who we are and do whatever we’re designed to do to the best level that you’re able to do it without letting anyone judge, criticize, condemn or make you feel less than the best!!! Let’s go for it! Get better at being yourself and enjoying your life – that’s how we’re designed to be – enjoy life, love, be loved and be happy!

Never think that you have to be like someone else or that someone is better than you because they look happy – you never really know what people are going through because we’ve all perfected the act of just looking good on the outside (and social media even makes it worse – I will not go there)! Anyway back to the point, you are completely different to everyone else and unless you allow the best version of you to come out and just freely express who you are, you might never be really happy.

Also, you might know this – if you try to be someone else, you end up being a lousy version of that person anyway, you’re not happy, and you just end up in jealousy and strife. I also heard that actually science has proven that this – “The more you desire to be like someone else – who in your mind is probably the ideal person, the more you’re working against the natural design of your brain and the more neuro-degeneration you’re creating for yourself” Now we wonder why there’s been an increased level of mental health in our time seeing that there’s a lot more understanding of these mental conditions – possibly we’ve stopped enjoying being who we are or we’ve even forgotten and lost in most cases who we are? Possibly we’ve let the media define who we are and we’re now chasing ‘a type’ that’s not real and that we really aren’t design to be? May be it’s time to spend some time alone with yourself again and re-discover who you are, enjoy who you are and just live your life. Stop comparing yourself to others and stop wishing you were like them or you had what they have – just live your own life, be content with what you have and thank God in and for everything, you will be much happier living life this way!

I celebrate you!

Courage! Courage!! Courage!!!

One of the most unpleasant of human emotions is fear, that feeling of terror or panic that tends to cripple us and make us unproductive plus even cry at times. We experience it when we feel uncertain about something or when we experience loneliness and loss or when we confront disease and death. Its’ especially evident in our feelings about the future – whether it be the uncertainties of a new day, new week, new season or new year. It’s a very annoying feeling but we tend to all experience it at one time or the other in our lives. So what do we do when these feelings come?

Time and time again the Bible encourages God’s people not to be afraid! I’ve heard that “Fear not or a variation of “don’t be afraid” is in the bible 366 times i.e. one for each day and an extra one for a leap year – Fear Not! Even though we know this, we still experience the feeling of fear and uncertainties but guess what we need Courage to keep going, no matter where we are, what season we’re in or whatever we might face or anticipate facing – just keep going!!! Trust and believe in God; keep doing what you know He’s told you to do. Keep it simple; one step at a time with God is the way I’ve found to combating this feeling of fear and uncertainty!

As an antidote to fear, we are urged to be strong and courageous as we face problems and difficulties, and we are to move out into the future with full confidence. And such courage is possible because our faithful God is on our side, because Christ, the resurrected Lord, gives us strength, and because the comforting Holy Spirit lives within us. The bottom line is this: God is in control of our days – this day, and all of our tomorrows. He holds it all together and He has beautiful plans for our lives, so my suggestion is when that feeling of fear and uncertainty comes next time, remember God is with you and He’s the one taking you on this journey of life!!! He will NEVER EVER leave you to be by yourself and He will NEVER forsake you to face the struggle alone!!! He is there right in the midst of the storm, the confusing times and the uproars!!!

Be strong and courageous is repeated 3 times between vs 6-9 of Joshua 1. Firstly, it’s mentioned as a vital necessity to do what Joshua was assigned to do. Secondly, it was mentioned as a necessity for being who he was meant to be i.e. successful and prosperous and thirdly, it was mentioned as a vital necessity to fight the emotions that’ll stop Him from doing what he was supposed to do and being who he was supposed to be e.g. the emotions of feeling afraid, lonely, low self esteem etc…Be strong and Courageous, keep going and always set the Lord before you!!! Don’t give up and don’t stop!!! Faithful is He who promised!!!

It is well! I pray you have the courage to step out and do all those things God has placed in your heart to do and courage to keep doing those things you’re already doing at His command even though there doesn’t appear to be much result yet – keep at it because He’ll surely in good time bring you a harvest that even you will not have room to contain it!!! I am encouraged and I trust you are too.

Have a good weekend!

The alternative to worrying

So, in a previous post, I talked about ‘The negative effects of worrying’ and it came to my mind afterwards that some people who read the blog might say “OK, I will stop worrying, then what do I do?” Or some others might say, “Oh it appears I can’t control it…; these thoughts still keep bugging my mind and filling my head with doubts, worry and anxiety, and I don’t seem to be able to stop worrying” I’m hoping to help you with this short blog that talks about the alternative I’ve found to worrying and how you can start living life to the full!

The first and most important alternative to worrying that I’ve found is getting the word about the situation and speaking it out – so you might ask what do I mean by the word? The bible is ‘the word’ to me! We should open the bible and get scriptures into us daily, then when we are faced with situations that would normally cause us to worry, these words come back up or even at that time we can search the scriptures and find a bible verse that addresses the situation and we can begin to think about this word and also say it out every time the situation pops up in our mind. The way the devil attacks us is by making several negative suggestions that go against the word of God in our mind and we really don’t have to think about these thoughts; we can replace them with thoughts that line up with the word of God. We can’t overcome thoughts with thoughts; we’ve got to get our mouths involved in this battle and replace the thoughts with words that come out of our mouth because that’s what will stop the thought. So let’s get back to the basics and get God’s word in us, not just reading it but actually thinking about it and striving to understand what we’re reading so that we know how to apply them appropriately when we are faced with situations. The more attention we give to the word, the more understanding we will get! Mark 4:24 (…The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given–and you will receive even more.)

The next alternative to worrying is Praying – I believe this is very simple and straightforward. We need to turn to God and talk to him in our own language about what is bothering us (just like we talk to a friend about these issues – God wants to reason with us Isaiah 1:18 “come now, let us reason together, says the Lord…”). Thereafter, we need to actually ask him in specific terms what we would desire Him to do for us. Phil 4:6 -8 says “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus”. Once we’ve asked God what we want in specific terms, then we need to fix our thoughts… (Verse 8 says “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise”. How do we do this? How do we fix our thoughts? By disciplining our mind to think a specific thought…this thought is ‘the word’ because ‘the word’ is truth anything else is a fact and it’s subject to change! After doing these, we will find that we can go about our day like He’s answered our prayers. The thoughts that “things have not changed and possibly maybe nothing will change” will come back to us but we should shut that devil up by speaking the word again and again; reminding him about the scriptures and telling him that you believe God is working and you will see things change! Tell Him God has conquered him and he’s fallen like lightning and we’ve been given the authority over him. Hallelujah!!! Don’t allow yourself to be worried or anxious about anything – it’s not worth your time and energy. Life is more precious than spending all of our today stressing about tomorrow; when each day comes with its own grace! Just relax, trust that God loves you so much and He will give you only the best, and then enjoy yourself to the maximum. “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me John 14:1.

The final alternative I will talk about on this blog is for you to do whatever is within your power to do. So after you’ve gotten the word and prayed then spend time to plan, prepare, seek counsel and start doing something to change the situation, even if it’s little – “Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house” Proverbs 24:27. Remember Rome was not built in a day so it’s gradual – slowly but surely things are changing.

While you’re doing this, the devil will not take the back seat, he will come back again and again. Remember, when the thought to worry comes back to mind though, tell the devil and remind yourself that you are on your way and things are changing.

Final words:

You can’t win your victories by keeping quiet – you have only what you say but when you don’t say anything, guess what? You have nothing! When you say negative things, guess what you’ll have? Indeed…negative things!! So why take the chances? Begin shaping your destiny and taking back control of your life by speaking only the words that line up with God’s word about you and your life. You are destined for victory! You were made for the top – a city set on the hill that cannot be hidden “You are the light of the world–like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Matt 5:14”.

I will do a new thing…

You might have experienced great things happen in your life before now and you might have even witnessed it happen in other people’s lives…! Now that’s great, but it’s nothing compared to what God is about to do in your life. He says in Isaiah 43:18 “But forget all that has happened before now (the successes, the breakthroughs, the open doors, the turnaround etc) – it is all nothing compared to what I am going to do. I hope you are seeing this? All those victories you’ve heard and seen is nothing compared to what He’s about to do in your life, through your life and for you. He is set to do a new and wonderful thing; such like you’ve never seen or experienced before.

Here is verse 19 “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland! God says, He is about to do a new thing and ‘new’ signifies something that has never existed before – so God is set to do something that has never existed before in your life, family, ministry, career, relationships, all spheres of your life. He said, He’s actually started this new thing but you’ve got to see it with your eyes of faith! You need to begin to picture those things that He’s spoken to you about (begin day dreaming, or bring back those long lost desires and dreams…) and ponder on everything God is doing and what is happening in your life because He has begun a NEW thing already; both in your life personally and in all the world. A new army has arisen!!

You might have stayed in a seemingly stand still position for a long time and you might have even gotten used to this status; God says “get up and begin to move because I am about to make ways in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”. You might have stayed in lack for so long that you don’t even know how to live in sufficiency not to talk of abundance, God says “get up and begin to expect me to move on your behalf for the rain of abundance is about to fall – I am going to do a new thing” You might have been single for so long that you don’t even expect that anyone can approach you, God says “shake that thought off and begin to expect me God to do something new”. If you were meant to stay in the state that you’re in, God wouldn’t have put a desire for greater in you! He doesn’t put desires in us to frustrate us, He puts the desires in us to fulfil them – He himself will do it and He’s promised that I’m about to do something New! Don’t be afraid, don’t be in doubt and unbelief, don’t say how can these things be, just believe God and say out loud (in the devil’s face) “Lord I believe that in my life and in my situation you are about to do something New, I believe it, I receive it and I expect to see the manifestation of your word!”

How many people are still expectant? We hear the word of God so often; like this one above but we don’t see things change or we don’t experience the manifestation of the word in our lives…do you know why? It’s because we fail to think long enough on the word (meditation – e.g. picture the areas of your life that you could benefit from New things happening for example) and expect it to happen. So we might be joyful when we hear the word because it sounds good and we start believing and expecting but we let the word slip, we then stop focusing on the word, we lose sight of it and stop expecting. Expectation however is the breeding ground for miracles! You’ve got to keep expecting and believing that the word God has spoken will come to pass!

So friends once again I remind you of God’s word to you – Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

New things are about to happen!!! Believe, Expect, Receive, and See it!!!

Ah! My mouth, May God help me…

I know you possibly opened this blog because the title caught your attention but that’s how I honestly felt after been held down for a few days studying James 3 – it says no man can tame the tongue (I believe this because I have tried to tame this wonderful tongue of mine for several years and it’s just not worked or sustainable…so how do we attain this perfect life especially now that I’m teaching others?!? It’s only by the help of the Holy Spirit so if you were like me and you don’t want to see these negative effects you better wake up every morning and start asking the Holy Spirit to help you especially in the words that come out of your mouth…

Proverbs has some very useful insights about my mouth which has been helpful e.g. Prov 10:19 – “Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut”, Prov 13:2-3 – “Wise words will win you a good meal…Those who control their tongue will have a long life, opening your mouth can ruin everything”, Prov 17:27-28 – “A truly wise person uses few words; a person of understanding is even tempered. Even fools are thought to be wise when they keep silent…”, Prov 29:20 – There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking”… but with all these I still can’t do it without the help of the Holy Spirit, neither can you! For us to become who we were meant to be though, we need to earnestly work on this little but powerful part of our body and start allowing ONLY positive things that line up with the word of God to come out of our mouth and don’t speak when you don’t need to and when you speak, don’t say too much!

You were born to win, not lose and be under all the days of your life. Start living that victorious life today and take control of your life and destiny by asking the Holy Spirit to help you at all time and watch carefully what comes out of your mouth at all time – even when you’re joking!

You win!

2015, our year of lifting up!

So last year, I didn’t publish this type of blog until the year was nearly over but this year I will not let that happen!

So this is what I feel the Lord is saying about 2015…My Pastor decreed it’s our year of lifting up and I believe it so much because towards the end of the 2014 what God was speaking to me about was very much in line with upliftment. He spoke to me from Isaiah 66:8 – NLT (Who has ever seen anything as strange as this? Who ever heard of such a thing? Has a nation ever been born in a single day? Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment? But by the time Jerusalem’s birth pains begin, her children will be born.) and Psalms 24 :7-10 (Lift up your head o ye gates…). Then I saw the 2015 prophecies by Kenneth Copeland ministries and he decreed by the anointing of God that this is the year of open doors and I believe so very much that God has kicked the door open for us to move to another level/s and this will be easy…it will be so easy that many people will wonder how did it happen? I call it strange manifestations of God!!! You won’t have to labour too hard because the doors have been opened before you signifying opportunities that have been laid before us and we just need to begin to make the move and take advantage of these opportunities with ease. Revelations 3:7-8 – NIV (…These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name). Try things, do those things that have been in your mind, explore the business idea…you might have failed before, try again – you don’t fail until you stop trying!

When God lifts someone up, it signifies increase and promotion!! So you’ve remained at that level for long enough, begin to command a shift!! It must move, because God said so!!! Enough of trickles of blessings, it’s time for the big break!!! When God lifts you up, people everywhere will see you, so begin to call forth an increase in the sphere of your influence; your voice reaches further!!!

You see it’s not a year to expect small, it’s a year to think big and expect large!!!

So I hope you are ready and expectant. I pray that you will experience God’s hands lifting you up in everything and every way this year and always.

Stay lifted!
