The negative effects of worrying…

Worrying makes no sense…

So in my last post I talked about why I live a worry free life… This post will focus more on the negative effects of worry and indeed why worrying makes no sense.

Matt 6:25-34 clearly states “DO NOT WORRY” – God must have a reason why He said this. I will have to put this scripture up so that you can see what I see. It says:
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

For me, these are the 3 top negative effects of worrying (feel free to comment below and let me know what you see as the effects of worrying):

1) It affects your health (so many researches have proven this time and time again)
2) It changes nothing (I’m sure you can testify to this)
3) It saps your energy, and you lose the strength, will, and motivation to do anything

Let’s read verse 27 of that scripture again…”Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”…it’s emphasizing that we really can’t add any benefits to our lives by worrying or stressing about anything at all! Has anything ever changed by your worries? And do you notice that whether you worry or not, what will be will be?…for those who love God, things ALWAYS work out well in the end…So what am I saying? Stop worrying, fretting, or being anxious about your life, things or indeed anyone’s life…instead begin to enjoy everyday and live life to the fullest every chance you get! After all you’re not sure how long or short your life here will be…so give it your best shot and enjoy it to the fullest!!!

Why I live a worry-free life…

I was just thinking today about how I don’t worry about things anymore. I wonder why. So, something happens or things don’t go as expected and naturally one should worry or stress about it but my first response is to stay calm and my peace is usually not tampered with. How have I come to this level where my peace is not touched when things go wrong or when they don’t go as they should?

I believe this stems from a few things. Firstly because I have meditated so much on the truth that I KNOW beyond a shadow of doubt that my God will sort out everything that comes my way!!! He’s got it all covered!!! He wouldn’t allow much more than I can bear and whatever He does allow, there is a way of escape. I have also over the years meditated on Jer 29:11 (which is actually one of my favorite scriptures) that I know the plans God has for me are good and not evil and they are to bring me to the future that He has planned for me. So no matter what may happen today, it’s taking me towards the future God has planned for me. That’s so exciting!!!
Another truth I believe I have got into my system over time is the truth that ALL things work together for my good because I love God and I am called according to His purpose (Rom 8:28). One other powerful truth that I believe has helped me over time is found in Phil 4:6 (NLT) that says “don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything”. Finally, Matt 6:25-34 (I still need to spend more time on this one) is another scripture that I have thought on from time to time over the years and the way I have interpreted it is that I don’t need to worry about anything and it really doesn’t make sense if I worry about things I can’t do anything about. Worry will not change anything so let me do something about things that I can and leave the rest I can’t to God who is able to change all things and make all things happen as they should.

I will write about the negative effects of worrying in my next post.

I hope this helps and encourages you?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. Please let me know your thoughts.

The power of thanksgiving

John 11:41 …then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

In this verse, we see a good example of Jesus giving thanks to God. Most times we forget to thank God before and even after He has heard our prayers. I want to encourage us today that when we pray we should remember to give God thanks as Jesus did both immediately after we finish praying (i.e. when we haven’t physically seen the answer to our prayers) and when He actually answers us – say Father, I thank You that You have heard and answered my prayers. One reason why I encourage this is because when we thank God very often, I realize that it attracts not only answers to our prayers but even more blessings! – just imagine someone who thanks you a lot for the little things you do for them, for the big things you do for them and for times even when you don’t do what they ask you…you will be more inclined to help this type of person even more, wouldn’t you? I believe it’s the same with our heavenly Father – He will be inclined to bless us more and answer our prayers when we thank Him a lot more.

Also, John tells us, that when we pray according to God’s will (which is revealed in His word i.e. we pray according to the word of God) we can be confident that God has heard us (even before we see what we are requesting), and when we are confident that He has heard us, then we know that He has granted our request and we can then boldly say “Father, thank you for hearing and answering me” ( 1 John 5:14-15).

The devil wants you and I to pray and then go off wondering whether the prayer has been heard and whether God is willing to grant that request we asked Him. The way to overcome this doubt in our mind is by speaking out and lifting our voice of thanksgiving saying Lord, I thank you that you have heard me and you will answer my request.

I pray for you today that you will pray more confidently and you will begin to tap into the power of thanksgiving.

You are for signs and wonders!

Psalms 26:7 …singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders…

Choosing to speak or be quiet?

When you’re going through a difficult or seemingly rocky and impossible season in your life…when the mountains seem so insurmountable and it just looks like it’s never going to go away…when it seem like life is just so bad and will never get better…when it looks like you are just at a standstill and have been in that valley of dryness or dry bones for a long time…when it just appears like you can’t see a way out anymore and you’ve lost hope…remember this my friend…There is ALWAYS a way out! We might not see it, we might not know how, we might not even know what next step to take to actually change our current position/situation/circumstance but one sure thing to do during these times is to find the right word from the bible that addresses our situation and begin to speak it over and over but that’s it, don’t say anything else! No matter how many times people ask you about that situation, just keep quiet except you can speak those same words to them. This is not always easy, and I know it, but if we want anything to change, this is what we’ve got to do!

Our life is a sum total of our words (confessions)!

2014, your year of Restoration!!!

I know 2014 is nearly coming to an end but I believe this reminder will still be useful.

Toward the end of 2013, God started speaking to me about what 2014 holds. He was making me see that it’s a year of getting back, revival, rebuilding and restoration! A year where we will regain all that was lost in previous years and all we’ve ever lost in our lives. So I kept thinking about all of these and how this practically applies to me and my life and as the months have rolled by I can certainly see how things are been re-built, re-shaped and restored in my life. I’m getting back those passions, relationships, dreams and visions that I seem to have lost several years back. Had it not been for God on my side, where would I be today! He indeed is doing and completing a work of restoration in all areas of my life and for all those who will believe He will do the same in your life, business, career, family and relationships.

Lets be deliberate in our expectation of restoration this year, I am so sure it will surely happen for all who believe!!! I believe, do you? x

Why can’t we just get along? Simple!

I guess many of us wonder how come relationship with this person or that person is just so difficult? You wonder why can’t we just get along and let life just be simple?

I think one vital thing that usually makes relationship so difficult is the expectation we have of each other or the expectations we place on other people. You expect this person or that person to meet your primary needs i.e. Acceptance, Identity, Security, and Purpose for example or you might even expect them to meet other types of needs in your life e.g. emotional, financial, social etc. – usually because of the role/position they occupy in your life e.g. they may be your best friend, husband, family or whatever other positions you’ve placed them in. When they don’t fulfill these expectations, we become disappointed with them and we either voice that out or bottle it in. When we voice it out, sometimes it could lead to undue ‘pressure to perform’ on the other person except if the person is well firmly grounded and they know their identity 100% or it could lead to a break down of that relationship depending on how matured you both are, or if bottled in, could begin some deep rooted strife which will begin to affect how we relate to/with the other person.

The truth of the matter is that our most important relational needs and expectations can only be met by one person and that person is God! Why? The reason is because he’s the one who made us – i.e. knitted together every single fiber of our being! He knows us best and the things that we’re yet to even fully understand about ourselves, He knows them. He knows our weaknesses, He knows our strengths. He knows what’s best for us and He has the master plan of where and what our lives should be anyway. Please hear this one and you might be surprised – He loves us more than we even love ourselves and He always wants to give us the best possible!!! Sometimes we think we need one thing but He knows if we have it, that might hurt us so He looks for ways to give us what’s best for us instead (we don’t usually understand this – we might end up moaning at God). He and He alone can meet our relational needs and expectation and not any man or woman!!! So stop expecting people to do for you what they simply can’t do but instead turn your eyes to the one who can meet our deepest needs i.e. God and just start loving and accepting people the way they are! They are really not obliged to do anything for you no matter who they are or what role/position they occupy in your life. Be thankful for anything anyone does for you and look to God, the one who can truly satisfy all human needs to do the rest!!!

Remember without God our deepest relational needs, expectations, and desires will remain unfulfilled.

Life is too short, so let’s live, love and let others live in peace, harmony and Joy!!!
